HOW WOULD YOU RECOVER FROM THE TRAUMA AND INDIGNITY OF MIGRATING TO THIS COUNTRY?

Imagine escaping warfare and adversity in your own country, leaving behind everything you’ve ever known, only to have your children ripped from your arms as soon you arrive in the land you thought was safe.

Imagine surviving the longest journey, and looking down at your child’s face, knowing you are helpless as they take them away. Who do you turn to? How do you overcome the overwhelming feelings of separation while facing the daunting struggle of immigration, detention, and deportation proceedings? and, how do you and your children recover once they are back in your arms?

La Cocina wants to help immigrants take back control of their fate.  It is possible.  You can help.

Since just after the 2016 election, our program at The Family Center/La Familia has been at the forefront of advocacy for immigration social justice issues, focusing on making mental health services accessible to immigrants and detained families. In times where there is physical separation and immigration trauma, it can be easy to overlook the violence done against mental health. At La Cocina, we believe in a holistic approach to helping immigrants and their families recover from such abuses. Your support will work beyond the legal mandates, and help set individuals on the long path to healing.
